How KTQ Intersects with EU MDR Requirements
There's overlap between what EU MDR 2017/745 requires for CE marking and
what KTQ auditors look for - but they're not the same thing. EU MDR is
about product safety and performance. KTQ is about organizational quality
management and how the hospital integrates the equipment into its
operations.
Practically, this means:
- Your CE technical file helps satisfy KTQ's equipment documentation
requirements, but doesn't replace them entirely
- Your ISO 13485 quality system demonstrates manufacturing quality, but
KTQ also wants to see post-market surveillance data

isn't typically part of CE marking documentation
- KTQ evaluates the hospital's equipment selection process - whether the
procurement decision considered total cost of ownership, patient safety,

If you want your oxygen equipment to be the preferred choice for German
hospitals undergoing KTQ certification, go beyond the minimum regulatory
requirements:
1. Prepare a KTQ-ready documentation package. Don't make the hospital's
quality management team translate, reformat, and fill gaps in your
standard documentation.
2. Invest in German-language technical documentation. KTQ auditors review
documentation in German. If your manuals are only in English, the hospital
has to translate them - creating liability exposure for both parties.
3. Support the hospital's audit preparation. Offer to participate in pre-
audit reviews, provide reference documentation from other German hospitals
using your systems.
4. Demonstrate long-term performance data. KTQ values evidence over
claims. If you can show 5+ years of performance data from installed
systems, that data answers auditor questions before they're asked.
German hospitals take KTQ certification seriously. It's not a legal
requirement, but it's increasingly a de facto market access requirement -
insurers and referring physicians prefer KTQ-certified facilities, and
hospital administrators value the structured quality improvement framework.

proposals, a manufacturer that provides comprehensive KTQ-aligned

delivers a standard English-language manual and a CE certificate. The
