The patient is a 12-year-old boy. Six years ago, he felt pain in both knee joints without any cause, accompanied by redness and swelling. However, he did not pay attention to it and only received treatment for contusions at a local hospital. The symptoms did not improve and were intermittent. About three months later, the redness, swelling and pain in the joints intensified, accompanied by fever. He was hospitalized three times for treatment and was diagnosed with "rheumatoid arthritis". After treatment with penicillin, prednisone and aspirin, the symptoms were relieved. For nearly four years, the redness, swelling and pain in the joints have recurred repeatedly, and the joints have gradually become stiff, making it impossible to walk. Therefore, I came to our hospital for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Physical examination: Clear mind, weak neck, normal heart and lungs, liver and spleen not affected, no spinal deformity, red, swollen and hot joints of the limbs, mild atrophy of the muscles in both lower extremities, no pathological neural reflexes. Blood picture: WBC 11× 109 /L, RBC 5×1012/L, erythrocyte sedimentation rate 85 mm/h, anti-" O "> 500 U, positive rheumatoid factor, X-ray examination of limb joints shows rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore, in addition to the anti-rheumatoid treatment for the child patient, a hbot hard chamber was added. A single-person pure oxygen chamber was adopted. The pressure was raised for 30 minutes with a pressure of 1.8 ATA(0.18 MPa), stabilized for 30 minutes, and decompressed for 30 minutes. It was done once a day for 10 days as one course of treatment. After one course of treatment, the child reported that the joint pain was relieved. Then, in the second course of treatment, a 2 ATA hyperbaric chamber was used. The child reported that the joint pain was significantly relieved. And he could walk slowly. After the third course of treatment, they continued to use the 2 ATA hyperbaric chamber, and the above symptoms were relieved. For the past three years, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been performed for 2 to 3 courses each year, and the use of anti-rheumatoid drugs has basically been stopped. After a 3-year follow-up, the child's general condition was normal. The joint pain had basically disappeared. The child was able to run and ride a bicycle to school, and there was no progressive atrophy of the muscles in both lower limbs.
2 Discussion
Rheumatoid arthritis is treated with hbot hard chamber therapy, which increases the partial pressure of oxygen in the blood, expands the effective diffusion distance, and supplies oxygen to the damaged joints, muscles, nerves and blood circulation, improving the nutritional status in all aspects and playing a recovery role. Through a 3-year follow-up of the children patients, the results indicated that hyperbaric oxygen could achieve a good therapeutic effect on rheumatoid arthritis.
LBYL Company manufactures personal hyperbaric oxygen chambers, which makes it more convenient for us to use hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
